Food and Travel
Breathtaking... a real find." - Kate Crockett
A few years ago luxury accommodation was thin on the ground in party town Chamonix, but this has all changed. There is now a handful of top-end lodges, such as Chalet Lumière, to rival any of those found in the larger resorts. Built in a traditional alpine style with breathtaking views of Mont Blanc and Les Drus from the living room’s centrepiece, a huge picture window, Chalet Lumière is a real find – hidden away as it is in the quiet, exclusive Les Bois area of town. The property sleeps ten guests plus two children in a 230sqm living space, which is spread over four floors, housing a self-contained apartment for the nanny, children’s playroom, cinema and a games room complete with pool table. The comfortable bedrooms are simply furnished with LCD TVs, DVDs, your choice of linen and towels, and L’Occitane goodies. As you might expect, lift passes, skis and boots are delivered to the chalet – the latter are placed straight into the basement boot warmer. Return from the slopes to tea, freshly baked cakes and a soak in the patio Jacuzzi. The rest can jump in the sauna, call on the massage therapist or visit the yoga teacher for some stretching out of tired muscles. Adrenaline junkies can plan an unmissable night-time skidoo adventure in nearby Courmayeur, including an Italian meal at a mountain-top restaurant before skiing, by torchlight, back down the valley. The welcoming chalet team includes a manager, two drivers and a chef.
Mr & Mrs Smith
"An excellent choice... one of the most breathtaking views in the Alps..."
Just outside the French Alpine resort of Chamonix and surrounded by some of the most dramatic scenery in the region, Chalet Lumière is a traditional-style chalet that doesn’t compromise on modern comforts and exceptional service. Sleeping ten guests in five double or twin rooms, the chalet is ideal for families or friends looking to take advantage of the valley’s huge choice of year-round activities. Little more than one hour from Geneva airport, Chalet Lumière is also an excellent choice for short breaks, too.
